On March 5, 2018, Vietnam combat veteran Robert (Big Bob) McGuirl of New Rochelle was honored by the county for his exemplary commitment to veterans.
Bob received a proclamation by County Executive George Latimer, presented by Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins and the County Distinguished Service Medal, the highest medal given to a resident of Westchester County.
An honorary plaque was awarded by the Westchester Veterans Service Committee and presented by Veterans Agency Director Ron Tocci. The plaque honored Bob’s remarkable dedication to our veterans and hereafter recognized him as “Chief Veteran Advocate”.
Bob is the Chair of the Westchester Veterans Service Committee and a proud member of Pelham Post 50 and LTC Sam DiRienzo VFW Post 2285.
An avid volunteer with the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System, Bob received the distinguished honor of Volunteer of the Year 2017 and has served more than 2,200 plus hours volunteering at the VA.
