- For veterans with an injury, illness, or condition connected to their service.
- Discharge must be under conditions other than dishonorable.
- Service requirements may include:
- 90 days of wartime service
- 181 days of continuous peacetime service
- 2 years of active duty (post-1980 enlistments)
- Veterans discharged early due to a service-connected disability may still qualify.

- For wartime veterans who are permanently and totally disabled, or age 65 and older.
- Requires service during VA-recognized wartime periods:
- World War II: Sept 16, 1940 – Jul 25, 1947
- Korean Conflict: Jun 27, 1950 – Jan 31, 1955
- Vietnam Era: Aug 5, 1964 – May 7, 1975
- Persian Gulf War: Aug 2, 1990 – Present (2 years or full active-duty call)
- Income and net worth limits apply.
- For surviving spouses, parents, or children of service members who died in the line of duty or from service-connected conditions.
- May include monthly DIC payments, education assistance, or a VA home loan guaranty for surviving spouses.

Provides health care coverage for eligible spouses and children of:
- Veterans permanently and totally disabled by a service-connected condition, OR
- Veterans who died from a service-connected condition
Eligible veterans, spouses, and certain dependents may qualify for:
- Burial in a VA national cemetery
- Government-furnished headstone or marker
- Burial allowance and flag
- Burial of eligible family members
